Blocked Sidewalk

West Parrish Road

Case Date:
6/14/2020

Hello - The sidewalk along Parrish between North Kinzer and Arlington Heights School is blocked in several places by overgrown vegetation. Would it be possible to check and see who is responsible (City? Homeowners?) and to see what can be done to make the sidewalk passable again? Thanks much!

Line of Sight

Walnut St at the City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control Shelter, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA

Case Date:
7/7/2021

The trees to the left (north) of the entrance/exit from the Animal Shelter and Recycle center on S. Walnut make it very tough to see traffic coming from the north headed south on Walnut. The speed limit there is 40mph, so cars are going 45-50mph along that stretch of road. The trees with leaves on them just about totally obscure the view of traffic coming from the north when you are trying to exit from the area. Can someone go check out the line of sight from this exit and see if the trees could be trimmed back in some way?

Accessibility Problem

Smith Rd and 10th St at Meadow Park Apartments, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

Case Date:
11/13/2021

No sidewalk available when turning left onto 10th Street off of N. Smith Road. I often come close to getting hit by cars when walking a short-section on this part of 10th Street that has no sidewalk on either side. As a disabled person, I find this even more frustrating. Please consider installing sidewalk on the South-side of 10th Street on this section (on the back-side of the self storage facility on N. Smith Road, that may vbe seen from 10th Street). Thank you.

Accessibility Problem

Smith Rd & 10th St, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

Responded... Hi Nick. First of all, thanks for submitting thisĀ uReport. The more folks that say something about it, the better. Second, I know this person and his mother is actually the chair of the Council for Community Accessibility. While neither have directly complained about this issue it has been on our radar as other people have seen him try to navigate that stretch of Smith Road. So I went out and did a full survey from 3rd to 10th Streets and reported every issue along that route. Then I participated in a discussion about it with the Engineering and Planning. It's not so easy to address this one because it's very narrow and can't be widened. It would also be fairly costly to do the whole route. But we have placed it on the sidewalk priority list that was submitted to Planning departments for their next round of sidewalk construction. We won't know how that very limited budget gets spent for a while, but sure hope it includes addressing this one. So that's where we stand on it. Fingers are crossed! It's folks like you who call this out that might make it happen sooner versus later. So thank you! Michael (staff liaison to the Council for Community Accessibility)
