Abandon garage/building at Orris and W. Cottage Grove. Overgrown vegetation, dumping, attracting transients AGAIN. Out of town owner. No work has been done on the lot in a year. We are trying so hard to clean up this neighborhood. The continued neglect of this property attracts dumping, drug use and the criminal element... at the expense of taxpaying neighbors and tenants that surround it. Please address this issue, it is the last problem property in the immediate area.

I was leased an apartment that when it rains the sidewalk floods and am unable to leave my home safely. They sent someone to dig a small trench and put plywood down on the sidewalk, but it is very unsafe and doesn't take care of the lack of drainage and soil control. Also, my apartment has 6-8 unmaintained older trees preventing any sunlight at all. The air is always very damp humid air and smells like a stagnant pond. The gutters are overflowing. I am 80 years old and don't have an email. Please call me, thank you.

Hi, apologies if this isn’t the correct place for this, but I need to express my concern. Over the last year or so, I’ve taken more of an interest in City Council meetings and have been watching them on CATS when I can. I’ve noticed an odd…phenomenon(?). From what I’ve observed, council members more or less attack (sorry for lack of better term) city-hired consultants when they’re presented with information that they don’t agree with. Tonight’s community survey results being the latest example. It almost seemed like multiple members of council were suggesting that a firm be hired based on their ability to provide the data they preferred, rather than proven surveying methods. Again, this may just be me, but the aggressive questioning and more or less insulting of the “expert” was very off-putting. It happened with Hopewell presentations, too. Why does council feel the need to attack and then soap box? Everything feels knee-jerk and emotion based. I just wish there was more level-headed, unbiased conversation in these meetings. Like, these are the people making decisions for their voters but so many of their speeches are about them personally and may mention constituents, but in a very flippant way (if that makes sense). Anyway, it’s just concerning to me. These people are supposed to be representatives of the residents of Bloomington and therefore Bloomington itself, yet do not hesitate to make offensive comments to people hired to ultimately help the city become better. At what point does Bloomington just get the reputation of no one wanting to work with/for us because council is more or less abusive if they aren’t given information/data they agree with? Sorry if this just comes off as a rant—I truly hope it finds its way to some welcoming ears and eyes. And maybe, just maybe, inspires some change. I will use my singular vote each election cycle and hope for the best, in the meantime.

This is a repeat of ureport #204475... Regarding the bridge over the train tracks where Rogers becomes Madison, between 11th and 13th street. The bike lane was painted again today, and again it was painted incorrectly. The technicians have not been following the engineered design, and as a result the merge zone has gone missing. This is important to let cyclists and drivers both know that the bike lane ends. It's also important to provide a suggestion for where the merge should occur -- it is much safer to merge at low speed and high visibility at the top of the hill than at high speed and low visibility just past the crest. Not sure what's going on with the stairs, but the cinderblocks seem to be a huge hazard when walking and trying to reach the property.
