Please, clean up the shantytown in Seminary Park. This is not fair to the squatters who swat there, the people who would like to use the park as it was meant to be used as a non-residential recreation space, and the businesses and homes in the vicinity. Clean it up. Get these folks into a space meant for habitation. This is not safe and it certainly is not indicative of a healthy city. Worst city government in 50 years.

Seminary Square Park, there is a big tent-like structure covered with a blue tarp. Does not look like it was erected this morning. Soon there might be more. Is the No-tents-in-parks during the night ordinance being enforced?

Traffic Suggestions

411 IN-45, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

I live in Blue Ridge on the north side of town and cross the Dunn/45-46 intersection daily to get to work. This intersection not only has high traffic due to daily Bloomington traffic, but also has high traffic with visitors for game days and other IU events. This intersection needs to be reworked to help with traffic flow and safety. (1) Driving south through the intersection on Dunn there is only a green light (no green arrow or yellow yield arrow like other traffic signs around town.) People frequently turn left immediately on green without yielding, causing several near accidents (happened to me twice just this week.) (2) Going northbound on Dunn -- there are 3 lanes - 1 to turn left, 1 to go straight onto North Dunn, and 1 to turn right. Although there is a sign that says turn left, almost daily people are turning left from the "straight traffic" lane, again causing issues with traffic and safety. I believe there needs to be a sign that says "straight ahead only" -- similar to the signs on South Walnut near Kroger/Seminary Square. As someone who drives this intersection daily, I am always prepared for someone to incorrectly cross through these intersections, but for 90% of people who do not, especially people going to/from IU on visits and other events and/or are from out of town, this is extremely unsafe.

Seminary park littered with trash and abandoned personal possessions. Also several stolen shopping carts filled with just abandoned. Have seen city workers bypass picking up these items and/or throwing them away or taking care of the problems.

Seminary park area is, as always, full of Trash and abandoned personal possessions. Trash is being blown everywhere in the area including several retail areas. Some of the retail areas are abandoned or vacant. Regardless these retailers should not be accountable to pick all this trash up since the city cannot take care of the problem! There are also several homeless in the area with stolen shopping carts. Police need to intervene and return the stolen items to the owners. I continue to not understand why the city doesn’t take action or laws/rules in violation!!!!

Hi there, I have noticed a large increase in homeless activity in Bloomington this year. In the past, homeless individuals have largely remained in Seminary Park. Now, I see them camped in the park by Hartzell’s on Kirkwood, up by the square further north on Walnut, and even in Bryan Park. Homelessness is a complex problem and individuals in this situation face unfathomable challenges, but many of my peers and I feel their presence in social areas of Bloomington has negatively impacted the safety and cleanliness of the city. Just yesterday, I witnessed a homeless man harass a girl sitting in Brother’s Bar and Grill by slapping the window as if he was slapping her bottom through the window. It made me feel unsafe in my Bloomington home. Similarly, the park near Hartzell’s on Kirkwood is no longer an inviting place to eat ice cream with friends due to the mess left by homeless populations in this area. I am so sorry for their situation and challenges they face, but I do not want the homeless epidemic to impact the value and vibrance of the many lovely green spaces in Bloomington. For these reasons, I wanted to express my concerns about the spread of homelessness in Bloomington this past year and implore you to seek solutions for the issue. I am not an expert in social services or rehabilitation, so I am not sure if there are solutions to this problem, but I hope the city of Bloomington will take my concerns to heart to both help the homeless and improve the safety and well-being of Bloomington. Thank you

signal at smith and walnut (just north of seminary square) used to operate in some sort of recall mode, but this week has not been. as a cyclist i dont seem to have any way to activate the signal. i'm typically eastbound here and stopping in the middle of the bike rectangle there doesnt seem to have any effect. i have been running the red, which is unideal. thanks!

City Performance

Case Date:
8/30/2022

Over the weekend there was a situation at Kroger seminary square where a security officer tazed somebody. I am aware a business is responsible for their own property. However, the seminary square area and seminary square Kroger has become increasingly problematic. Kroger is a large tax paying/job creating business in Bloomington and as a patron of Kroger I feel that the city needs to take responsibility for creating the problems most notably around the Kroger Seminary Square. (Drug usage, public intoxication, public nudity, pan handeling, vandalism, stealing, littering, illegal trespassing, etc). All these criminal activities (being ignored bc city politics have told the police/prosecutors to ignore) in the surrounding areas are spreading unjustly into this downtown Kroger. The city needs to quit passing the blame and own up to the environment they have created. I urge city officials to crack down on these problems and come up with a real solution to fix these problems. Local business should not have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on security bc you cannot provide a safe community!

The sidewalk in front of the Seminary Square Outlet Sign on 2nd street is cracked and a deep hole in middle of side walk. This hole is big enough a small child could fall down into.
