Hello -- Steve Akers here in the Park Ridge neighborhood. I have some items to bring to your attention regarding the Park Ridge park. Most are pretty obvious in terms of regular park maintenance and other points are from our stewardship observation as park users and close by residents. Please read through these points and be sure they are part of the on-going maintenance as we get closer to Spring, thanks. - Mowing: the contractor you have subbed out the mowing to is mowing whether it needs it or not. This has been the case for the past year. The result is literally no grass. Granted the park is heavily used including a nearby daycare visiting 2-3 times per week. With this what we believe is excessive mowing, the leaves are ground to a power and the grass is till. Granted it's quite shady - but please manage the mowing service and please for a pretty aggressive seeding and fertilizing. The park is now just dirt so users have to clean their shoes after use, etc. - Wood chips - regular maintenance. A good dose of chips are needed after a winter season use. - Powerwashing: the equipment is in decent shape and not too dirty but a good power washing of all equipment would be great before the spring/summer season. - Erosion: this issue is most noticeable in two locations. The hill to the south and the hill area beside the bike/ped path. With improved mowing and seeding, these areas may recover. But they do need some soil and minor leveling. - Canopy: it's still an awesome upgrade but does need power washing/cleaning, or possible replacement. We look forward to the park transitioning from winter to spring. The grill will hopefully be unsecured (the homeless have moved on) and the water fountain will be turned back on. I am happy to meet you or any staff at the site to discuss my items. One additional item: the Park Ambassador program does not include our park. I made an inquiry when the program began and was told the Park Ridge park was not part of the program. Would you reconsider? I know of neighbors who are willing to be named the Park Ambassador. Someone has left a small cat bed and placed out water and food at the Rogers Family Park (Goat Farm). The water and food dishes are close to the parking lot. I do not want my dog to eat food from the park and he almost got it before I saw it.

I would like to complain about all of the rain outs at the Winslow baseball fields when there is no active rain. Games are being canceled by the city when the Smithville and Ellettsville leagues are still playing games. Both other leagues have people on the field clearing water and putting down quick dry every day while it appears very little effort is given to clearing water from the Winslow fields. Having city employees work on the fields or allowing volunteers to do so would make a big difference.

The recently removed Wapahani lake has produced a new washout problem; and I’m also concerned that a similar problem is going to happen to the remaining lake of the old twin lakes of years past. I’m not sure why people think removing a large body of water is the best answer for alleviating water issues. Anyway, before I digress further. I know the city/county are well aware that something permanent will need to be done. My hopes are that a well thought out plan will be considered

Please remove the invasive species--Tree of Heaven---near the water uplift station near the street on the west side of the property. It is growing very fast and spreading. Thank you.

On 6-15-23 between the hours of 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Myself and 2 others had just climbed up the stairs after going down to look at the water falls. We heard a loud car enter the parking area and shut off. however, no one got out of the vehicle as if they intended to hike. I was concerned about my own car because it was the only other one there. My friends and I decided to walk back up to the parking lot to make sure my was not the target of being broken in to or the catalytic converter being stolen. As we approached the parking area, we observed the other car had backed into the parking spot next to my car. We could see the driver standing beside they driver's door. We made noise to let the m know we were approaching, the person standing immediately sat back down in their seat. We saw an adult male slumped over in the passenger seat, totally passed out and not moving or awake. The driver and person who had been standing was an adult women, she seemed oblivious and unaware too. The car was and older car, a big vehicle like police use to drive, possibly a Crown Victoria . The back seat was piled high with clothes,, sleeping bags, blankets, etc. Indicating to me homelessness. The car was painted gray with a large area of the front end painted black. The back window on the drivers side had a star in it, brown like a sheriff's star. It was obvious that they were not intending to hike. We intended to continue our hike but decided the situation seemed unsafe and sketchy. I would have liked to have gotten a photo of their license plate, but as I said they were backed into the spot. As that is a pretty isolated area without others around, I thought I should at least list my concern. It is my hope that the area is patrolled throughout the day. The Leonard Springs Nature Preserve is a beautiful area that those of us who appreciate nature and the beauty of this area should be able to access without risk or fear of something happening to our vehicles or our person. My friends and I are experienced hikers and do so on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this is the first time we have felt such an uncomfortable and sketchy situation. On-going issue. Sediment buildup in open ditch south of storm sewer discharge pipe is impeding/stopping flow of storm water runoff in open ditch further downstream from where pipe daylights. Attached site plan clearly shows the pipe is not daylighting on our property as was concluded by CBU supervisor on previous ticket #169150. The centerline of the open ditch is approximately 15' off of our building wall and the site plan shows the property line at 11.08' from our building wall. The rainwater backup caused from the sediment buildup is back flowing into our drive/parking lot during rain events. I have other photos from several rain events that I can forward through email to provide evidence of the issue. If possible we'd like to meet a CBU supervisor on-site at their earliest convenience to discuss the issue.
