Thank you Mayor Kruzan! I know you are a 'good guy' as you have helped me with a problem before. Please do not allow a low-barrier homeless shelter. And do keep them out of the garages, etc. I truly believe they will return to where they came from without so many amenities in Bloomington.

Amy Shrake went 'above and beyond' in allowing a family friend to be 'late enrolled' into kids city. This went again protocol, but it prevented this young lady from being home, alone, for the week in which payment got messed up. THANK YOU AMY!

Curtis [Gilstrap] (not sure about the last name) was so helpful when I visited Rose Hill Cemetery last Wednesday (31 July). I knew the section numbers, but not the plot numbers for several family members. He stopped to ask if he could help. He located the plot numbers for me, directed me to them, cleaned some mold off one of the stones, took a picture for me--I had my camera, but to get a proper picture I would have needed to get down on my hands and knees, no longer possible for me! I also learned a great deal about the cemetery and its inhabitants. I don't think I told him how well-kept the cemetery is. He really seemed to care about the cemetery and its visitors and inhabitants. Please thank him again for me. Sheryn Peters

This will be my FOURTH TIME contacting the city to report this issue. In front of my house, on the city easement, is a grand old hard maple that unfortunately died this past summer. I have reported this to Lee Hoff twice by phone, and this is my second ereport. I have had no response to my ereports and Lee did not put a priority on its removal. Today, in the storms, a large limb fell between my house and the neighbor's, in the parking pad where his car usually is. Fortunately, the car wasn't there, but I can tell that this will be the first of many limbs to follow and we can not assume to be so lucky the next time! As this tree is clearly dead, clearly a city tree, and clearly a hazard, I request that it's removal be expedited before more serious damage, or injury occurs. The address is 1115 W. 6th St. The sugar maple is the easternmost tree and clearly dead. Thank you.

Dear Mayor Hamilton, Thank you for your op-ed piece, “Pistols in the Pool, Machine Guns on Parade and Nothing We Can Do,” published in the NY Times. You message was clear, passionate, and eloquent while posing the crucial question of how to keep our town safe and clarifying how we’ve arrived at these untenable circumstances. Your timing for pointing out Republican Vice President nominee Mike Pence as the source of this situation in particular is appreciated. My husband and I are so glad your message was given this platform. As parents of a son in law enforcement, we were also glad you addressed how hazardous the lack of gun restrictions in Indiana is for police officers. Thank you for taking this stand. Please know you have my support. Sincerely yours, Melissa Keller

Lisa Merchant 502.939.6538 called to express concern about homeless/transient population on Kirkwood becoming more assertive and aggressive. Daughter (rising IU junior) works at Pitaya and is approached daily, including being asked outright for her take-out food container yesterday. Lisa called BPD and was told that police hands are tied due to the city's stance on the issue. She said she worries that her daughter will be unsafe while walking to her car after work once it gets dark earlier, and suggests that a reserve BPD officer be available to "walk girls to their cars" after sundown. Just wants to be added to the broader list of concerns about city homeless.

Jeff Lowe, property owner at 1303 S. Park St., has had ongoing frustrations with Duke Energy regarding the removal of a tree from his property. He called expressing frustration, so OOTM would be aware of an unhappy Duke Customer. I believe he spoke to Julia yesterday as well.
