4 bird scooters have been on our sidewalk and in our yard since I woke up this morning. Currently they are in the gutter: 701 S Highland. There are also scooters on the sidewalk, standing as well as fallen, along Ballantine, near 2nd (we saw about 3 locations right around there on our walk home). Thank you!
There are 4 scooters outside my house. Measuring from the point farthest inward on the sidewalk, they leave 31" of room between them and the curb; less near the ramp to the street. They were right along our yard. Last night I sent a note about the 4 from the previous day; it was sent at about 5 and was going to be looked in to that day. At 9 when I went to bed, they were still there.
701 S Highland--there are 8 scooters here today; none have been taken. They are taking up parking spaces in the street and are an eyesore. If I cannot park my car in front of my own house without buying a permit, are these really allowed to do so? I would like them taken out of the neighborhood--they've been festering for the last week or so, and we are not a scooter-riding neighborhood.
There is a Lime scooter parked right in the middle of the narrow sidewalk on west 3rd St. near the alley between Maple and Euclid. It's near my house and I would like it removed.
2007 E Second this morning at 11 am. 2 hours later one of the scooters had been blown over and was half in the street. Traffic had to stop to let oncoming cars pass, because the road is very narrow here. I complained about scooters parked like this in the same spot a week ago. Don't those BIRD people learn from their mistakes?! This sidewalk is used by kids walking to 3 schools. A parent walking hand in hand with a child cannot pass here.
On Monday April 22 I reported a Lime scooter completely blocking the sidewalk. It has now been turned over off the sidewalk onto someone's property. Will someone please remove this eyesore.
Per the city of Bloomington's electric scooter guidelines "Park the scooter in a bike rack or in another lawful spot on public property that does not block the right-of-way, limit access for individuals with disabilities, risk damaging private or public property, or jeopardize public safety." I think the scooters, as currently used, are a bad idea. They are dangerous to riders and pedestrians and pose a hazard to motorists, besides clutter our sidewalks. Environmentally, I think of them as a large-scale manifestation of the American disposable razor mentally. At the very least, they need to be thoughtfully regulated. If not banned entirely, then, as motorized vehicles, they should be confined to streets or bike lanes and obey traffic laws, with fines resulting for violations. While we are at it, bicycles should not be allowed on sidewalks either. I am all for low carbon emissions, but I am not convinced the scooters are a safe and green alternative to walking or biking or taking a bus.
These Birds and Limes left plenty of sidewalk for pedestrians but the Limes would block someone from being able to get out of the rear seat of that car on to the sidewalk.
