The Bloomington Police Department investigates after a city transit but struck and killed a woman near the bus station at the corner of Third Street, and Walnut, Thursday, September 26, 2019 in Bloomington, Ind. Police are not yet releasing the name of the women pending notification of next of kin. BPD Police Lt. John Kovach said, "At this time preliminarily it appears that the city transit bus was pulling out of the station when the victim was struck. She is a deceased. It is a female. I do not have any other information, age, or name or anything that we're going to release at this time, obviously due to next of kin notification. So at this point, the investigation is ongoing with our accident reconstructionists. I do not know when any information will be released for the accident. Obviously, we want to make sure that we do a good thorough investigation." (Photo by Jeremy Hogan/The Bloomingtonian)

At approximately 7:50am 3/6/203 a B-ton transit bus driver, traveling SB through High St and Arden Dr intersection, failed to come to a complete stop. There were cars, pedestrians, cyclists in and around the intersection. Mostly, it's the elementary school kids on their way to school that are at greatest risk from poor driving habits.

Can we PLEASE move the bus stop signage / stop location at least 30 ft north of its current location to prevent people from falling into a drainage sinkhole this is located next to the existing drain. We reported this sinkhole THREE years ago, but nothing has been done, and now it's a hazard to passengers getting off of the #5 bus. Do I have to wait until Mayor Thomson to finally get this fixed? Hamilton has ignored this for THREE F'N YEARS. Sad.

Bus stop hazard: Can we please move the location of the #5 bus stop sign 30ft north. When the bus stops adjacent to the sign here passengers have to exit the bus right next to large (and growing bigger) sinkhole next to the storm drain. The sinkhole was reported years ago, but it persists. At least let me get off the bus without risking falling into a sinkhole before I have to walk through all that wet grass in the easement. Please?

I'm disappointed to find out that the 11 bus is an express route that stops only at the Atlas apartments and on the IU campus. The bus drives right by several stops for the 2 bus on West 17th, and these could be convenient stops for students and university workers that live in the homes and apartment complexes in that area/near Maple Heights. While it wouldn't entirely solve the issue that this area is dangerous for pedestrians (currently few pedestrian crossings near Kinser Pike, W 17th, and N Madison; parts of W 15th with no sidewalks etc.), adding a few 11 route stops nearby could decrease walk times and distance in these areas for those currently walking to bus stops for the 6 route. Please consider adding a couple of stops on the 11 route to serve W 17th street!

We're having a lot of issues with the bus stops being located on our properties and it bringing disturbances to our center. We request that all bus stops get moved off of the private property as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hello, I am finally writing here because of the immense and frankly overwhelming inadequacies of Bloomington Transit and what seems to be everyone working there above the position of bus driver. I have emailed them 4(!) times without any response. My primary concern is specifically with the 6 bus route, but it is rampant amongst many of the routes. I have consulted with multiple 6 bus drivers, who will remain anonymous, and discovered quite a bit. I didn't know that Bloomington's government had contracted the group that organizes Bloomington transit, and that seems to be the root of where the problem lies. Bloomington Transit has gone with apparently very little oversight for quite the time now, and I believe that time must come to an end. They are abusing their monopoly of student dependency and it is sickening. The 6 bus route has not been adjusted at all to deal with the new City Flats on Walnut which have completely overloaded the bus. This, combined with the 6 very large apartment complexes the 6 bus already directly served, plus the incompetence of whoever is in charge of dispatching the buses, has completely destroyed the route. WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: I know that money is the only way to make any sense to a government, so how would you like a massive lawsuit when one of these now CONSTANTLY overloaded buses crash? Everyday the bus is packed to the gils with people filled in way past the yellow line, which is entirely illegal. Bus drivers have told me that Bloomington Transit knows about this and by their lack of response are wholly complicit and will be liable in the end. That's on you. This is not only incredibly wrong on the grounds of being monopolistic and shrewd business practice, but it is now endangering human lives. This is not even to mention how abusive this is to the drivers, who are the real reason I'm writing you today. It is time to reign this in, before people are seriously hurt and the blood (and money owed) will be on your hands.
