About Padgett's Family Farm
Liz and Jeff Made their first garden in the spring of 1981 just after purchasing the farm in Eastern Greene Co. Their first market season was 1996, where they immediately realized how strong the support was and is for farmers and growers in Bloomington. They have devoted themselves since then to improving our soil and our growing practices. They use compost, cover crops, and crop rotations to maintain and increase our gardens fertility. They don't use chemical pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. Instead, they practice rotational managed grazing for cattle, moving them to fresh pasture daily.
In the spring, they use a soil-blocking method (no plastic) to start vegetable, herb and flower plants. Asparagus is always their first vegetable of the season and they normally end the vegetable season with sweet potatoes.
They have 100% Grass-fed and finished beef from July, through the end of the market.
