Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington Commission on Sustainability(BCOS) announces a "Call for Sustainable Ideas." All members of the public are invited to submit proposals for any project ideas that would make Bloomington a more sustainable community.
"We've had great participation from the public with the Commission on Sustainability and citizens of Bloomington are full of great ideas about how Bloomington can become more sustainable," said John Hamilton, the Commission Chair. "This 'Call for Ideas' is a way for individuals or groups to present their ideas to the Commission."
Within its first year, the BCOS, which held its first meeting in October 2005, wants to help sponsor tangible activities that increase sustainability, demonstrate results to the public, and encourage wider participation in the Commission's work. Proposals will be evaluated on their practicality, significance and their ability to influence all of the "Three Es" of sustainability: environment, economic development and social equity.
Applications are encouraged from all interested parties: existing organizations, businesses, nonprofits, schools and individuals of any age. Applications are available on the Commission's web site: [www.bloomington.in.gov/sustainable|http://www.bloomington.in.gov/sustainable] and interested parties can send questions to the Commission at [sustain@bloomington.in.gov|mailto:sustain@bloomington.in.gov]. The Commission will review submissions throughout the summer, with the goal of identifying ideas to bring to the public in the Fall.
The BCOS promotes economic development, environmental health and social equity in our community for present and future generations. The commission gathers and disseminates information; promotes practical initiatives; and measures, monitors and reports on our community's progress toward sustainability.
