Bloomington, IN -- Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today the launch of community-based study circles as originally discussed at the Mayor's Community Meeting on Public Safety in April.

"We appreciated all of the ideas and input from the citizens who attended the safety forum in April," Kruzan said. "And we look forward to continuing the dialogue via these community sessions and putting good ideas into practice."

"Safe and Civil: Let's Keep It Going" is a series of neighborhood-based, small-group dialogue sessions designed to allow community members the opportunity to talk about the benefits and the challenges of living in a growing community.

Beginning the week of July 9, groups will meet for two hours per week for five weeks. Each session will give participants a chance to share ideas and concerns related to the future of our community.

Topics to be addressed include Neighborhood Assets, Building a Stronger Feeling of Community and Making Neighborhoods Safer. Long-time residents, students, business owners and community-based service organizations are all invited to participate in this dialogue as we work together to make Bloomington an even better place to live and work.

An informational session is planned for Thursday, June 15 at 7:00 pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. This session will provide more details for both community members and for persons interested in volunteering as group facilitators or neighborhood coordinators.
