Bloomington, IN -- Joyce Poling, President, Monroe County Commissioners, Mayor Mark Kruzan and Kirk White, Chair, Community Public Safety Needs Assessment panel, will announce the progress of the panel at a news conference Thursday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Monroe County Courthouse, 3rd floor, in the Judge Nat U. Hill, III meeting room.

"Last fall, Joyce and I announced several ways the City and County can work together to benefit the community," Kruzan said. "Public safety has proven to be an excellent focus for our joint efforts, and we are pleased with the progress of this task force and eager to report its findings to the community."

Poling shared Kruzan's enthusiasm for the progress made by the panel.

"Providing solid public safety is perhaps the most critical responsibility of government," Poling said. "It can also be the most expensive. The spiraling costs and demands associated with ambulance service, law enforcement, fire protection and emergency preparedness make it all the more prudent for us to pool our resources to address these issues best."

A Community Collaboration initiatve, the formation of the public safety panel was announced last October during the first-ever State of the Community address. At the news conference, Poling and Kruzan will provide information about the panel and thank the members for their efforts while White will detail the committee's interim report on emergency preparedness.

Poling and Kruzan appointed White, Indiana University's Vice President of University Relations & Corporate Partnerships; Kevin Robling, City of Bloomington Corporation Counsel; Jerry Neely, President & Chief Executive Officer, Rogers Management, Inc.; Dan Peterson, Vice President for Industry and Governmental Affairs, Cook Group Inc.; and Ed Vande Sande, Director, Workforce Preparation Network, United Way of Monroe County, Inc., to the panel.
