[image:1796,left]Bloomington, IN -- Returning Indiana University students nearly double the population in Bloomington each August, so Mayor Mark Kruzan is encouraging existing residents to Be Neighborly! Girl Scouts of Tulip Trace Council, the Be Bloomington Booster of the month, is helping Kruzan spread the message by hosting several neighborly events in August.

"The students are very much a part of our community, and I know many Bloomington residents are happy to welcome them back," Kruzan said. "I hope the theme for this month is a friendly reminder to citizens that neighborly relations are the key to any successful and welcoming community, and as Mr. Rogers always said, 'Won't you be my neighbor?'"

Girl Scouts of Tulip Trace Council is hosting neighborly events for area Girl Scouts including Fun-O-Ree, a day of crafts and games at Cascades Park on Saturday, August 5, at 1 p.m. and a swim party at Bryan Park Pool on Saturday, August 12, from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m.

The public can also visit Girl Scouts of Tulip Trace Council at the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market every Saturday in August to learn more about Girl Scouting and how to be a good neighbor.

Other neighborly events this month include National Night Out, Family Flick-n-Float Night featuring "Shrek 2," TomatoTasting at the Farmers' Market and the Crestmont Summer Skate.

The City has many programs and services dedicated to neighborhoods, neighborhood associations and community-related interests.
