[image:2157,right]Bloomington, IN -- Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today the latest addition to the Be Bloomington campaign: September is Be Artistic Bloomington month. The month's theme serves to promote the many arts-related initiatives, activities and events that are occurring throughout the community.

"The arts are an important part of our community both in terms of character and commerce," Kruzan said. "This month I encourage residents to support the Bloomington arts community by visiting one of the many arts businesses or by participating in a Be Artistic Bloomington event."

Girls Incorporated of Monroe County is encouraging girls to be artistic with its Booster event. Girls Inc. will paint a mural on the side of its gym building on Sept. 23 and 30, from 10 a.m. until noon. The first weekend will consist of planning and mapping the mural on the building, and the painting will take place during the second weekend.

Other artistic events this month include the Fourth Street Festival, A Fair of the Arts, Music from the Heartland and the Peoples Park Lunch Concert Series. Also, the City will be making announcements regarding some arts-related initiatives, and an exhibit of Tibetan-themed photography will be featured in the City Hall Atrium.
