Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced a new Community Collaborations initiative today: free Braille and large print menus are now available to Bloomington restaurants, courtesy of a collaboration between the Indiana University Adaptive Technology Center and the City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility (CCA). Several restaurants have taken advantage of this service in an effort to enhance the level of service for their customers who are blind or visually impaired. Those restaurants that have not already done so are encouraged to take advantage of this free and simple service.

Restaurants that would like a copy of their menus in Braille or large print can obtain these at no cost by providing electronic versions (Microsoft Word or other formats) via e-mail to Marie Clapot, Chair of the CCA's Arts Access Committee, at [mclapot@indiana.edu|mailto:mclapot@indiana.edu]. Completed menus will be delivered to the restaurants as soon as they are completed by the Adaptive Technology Center.

"This is a great service for people with vision impairments," said Byron Smith, member of the CCA and its Arts Access Committee. "Many of the national chains provide these menus, but we hope many of the local restaurants will also provide the menus, now that we have established this program."

For more information about the menu project, contact Clapot via e-mail or by phone at 812-320-6080.
