[image:1795,left]Bloomington, IN -- Mayor Mark Kruzan announced that October is Be Diverse Bloomington month, the most recent addition to the Be Bloomington campaign. The month's focus encourages Bloomington residents to consider the value of diversity in our community and urges residents to participate in one of the many diversity events happening this month.

"We're very fortunate to have a community so rich in culture and diversity," Kruzan said. "This month is a time to celebrate our differences and similarities and encourage a spirit of inclusiveness and cohesiveness in our community. Our individuality helps make Bloomington vibrant and unique."

The booster event of the month is called Diversity Day. WFHB Community Radio is sponsoring the event and with the help of City of Bloomington's Safe and Civil City program, organizing the free event. Diversity Day will feature an outdoor concert, poetry reading and information fair on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 2 to 7 p.m. in Third Street Park.

The City is sponsoring several other events to promote diversity and cultural awareness in Bloomington. Among these events is Lotus in the Park, a free daytime activity for families and individuals. The Multicultural Festival, supported by the Safe and Civil City program, will also kickoff Be Diverse Bloomington Month on October 1.

Other events this month include the Lotus Festival, A Fair of the Arts, City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility Awards Ceremony and the Bridges Out of Poverty seminar.
