[image:1767,left]Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that in celebration of January as Be Healthy Bloomington month, the Monroe County YMCA is collaborating with the City to promote community health and wellness. The event officially kicks off the 2007 Be Bloomington campaign.

"This year we have more months, themes and opportunities for nonprofits to collaborate with the City to promote Bloomington's unique character," Kruzan said. "Be Healthy Bloomington is a great way to start this year's campaign because it reminds us that we should establish and stick to our healthy New Year's resolutions."

Monroe County YMCA, booster of the month, is hosting Family Fun Night. The event is a community-wide open house set for Sat., Jan. 27 from 6:30 - 10 p.m. The cost is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four or more.

The City and Bloomington Hospital's Active Living Coalition will have tables in the Y's lobby and will have health- and wellness-related information and materials. Participants will enjoy music, face painting, crafts, gymnastics, aquatic activities, games, tours of the Y and sample classes. Childcare also will be available.

Be Bloomington is designed to celebrate, preserve and enhance Bloomington's unique community character. The campaign encourages citizens to "Be Bloomington," meaning to become a part of the community's character by participating in such activities.

February: Be Compassionate

March: Be Accessible

April: Be Involved

May: Be Beautiful
