Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the City of Bloomington's Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department will recognize neighborhood associations during the seventh annual Blooming Neighborhood Celebration.

"Bloomington's neighborhood associations have been nurturing and growing wonderful ideas and projects, and this event is a nice way to honor those special achievements," Kruzan said. "I encourage associations to apply for the awards so we can recognize their efforts and reward their accomplishments."

For Blooming Neighborhood Award applications and more information, please contact Vickie Provine at 349-3505 or visit [www.bloomington.in.gov|http://www.bloomington.in.gov]. Applications are due in the HAND Department by Friday, April 27. Winners of the Blooming Neighborhood Awards receive a $100 check payable to their neighborhood associations.

There are three award categories: Mayor's Excellence Award, City Council Neighborhood Enhancement Award and the HAND Neighbor of the Year Award. Presentation of the awards will take place at the Celebration of Neighborhoods, during the Farmers' Market on Saturday, June 2 at 10 a.m.

There are 38 neighborhood associations registered with HAND, which established the Blooming Neighborhood Award program to recognize the special projects and initiatives implemented by many of the neighborhoods. The Blooming Neighborhood Celebration is intended for all neighborhood residents, whether or not their neighborhood is participating in the Blooming Neighborhood Awards. Neighborhoods can sign up for a table to display their neighborhood information at the Farmers' Market from 9 a.m. to noon.
