Bloomington, IN
- Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the City of Bloomington is teaming up with Bloom Magazine to host a special event to showcase Bloomington as a dog town. The event, called Picture Pawfect, is a once-in-a-dog's-lifetime opportunity for dogs and their guardians to gather in one of Bloomington's best-loved parks to have their picture taken by world-renowned photographer Steve Raymer.

The goal is to have 1,000 dogs and their guardians participate in the event, while raising funds for the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter and drawing attention to the Shelter's Adopt Today! campaign. The photograph will be featured along with all the dogs' names in the June/July issue of Bloom Magazine.

"A picture is worth 1,000 words, or in this case 1,000 dogs," Kruzan joked. "We want this to be an exciting and safe event that will garner national attention. Picture Pawfect will be a place for dog lovers to unite for a common cause, and show support for the City of Bloomington's Animal Shelter adoption campaign, Adopt Today!, and all the services the Shelter provides."

Picture Pawfect will take place at Bryan Park on Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be moved to Sunday, April 29, at 1 p.m. A $5 donation will benefit the Animal Shelter.

Participants must provide proof of current rabies vaccination. Registration will begin at noon in Bryan Park's Woodlawn Shelter (on the park's eastside). Dogs must be on leash at all times, should not be in heat, and should be friendly with other dogs and people. Water for pups and people will be provided by Walnut Grove Spring Water.

"The event seems like a good way for Bloomingtonians who love animals to have some fun and at the same time show support for the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter," said Malcolm Abrams, editor and publisher of Bloom Magazine. "Just about everybody who's a contributing writer or photographer to Bloom is a dog 'guardian,' including Steve Raymer, who was a National Geographic photographer for 25 years."
