City Recognizes Neighborhoods at Awards Ceremony

Bloomington, IN -- Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the City of Bloomington's [Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department |/sections/viewSection.php?section_id=126]will recognize neighborhood associations and individuals during the sixth annual Blooming Neighborhood Celebration. The event takes places at the Farmers' Market on Saturday, June 2, 2007, with neighborhood displays beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the awards ceremony at 10 a.m.

"Neighborhoods and neighborhood associations are essential to our community's well-being," Kruzan said. "The time, effort and creativity these groups and individuals dedicate to enhancing their neighborhoods are incredible feats. The City is proud to host a day where we recognize the outstanding contributions of neighborhoods and celebrate their accomplishments."

Old Northeast Downtown Neighborhood Association is the winner of this year's Mayor's Excellence Award with a certificate of recognition going to the Broadview Neighborhood Association.

Maple Heights Neighborhood Association is the winner of the City Council Neighborhood Enhancement Award with a certificate of recognition for the Old Northeast Downtown Neighborhood Association.

Georgia Schaich of the Green Acres Neighborhood Association is the winner of this year's HAND Neighbor of the Year Award. Ann Kreilkamp of the Green Acres Neighborhood Association and Jan Sorby of the Bryan Park Neighborhood Association will receive certificates of recognition.

Winners of the Blooming Neighborhood Awards receive a $100 check payable to their neighborhood associations. There are 40 neighborhood associations registered with HAND, which established the Blooming Neighborhood Award program to recognize special projects and initiatives.
