Baker Place Building and Art Gallery Dedication is Monday

Bloomington, IN-- Ron and Liz Stanhouse, the Bloomington Area Arts Council (BAAC), Downtown Bloomington, Inc., the City of Bloomington Mayor's Office and the City's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department are proud to announce the opening of the newly renovated Baker Place. The rental condominium and art gallery are located at 115 S Walnut St., in Bloomington. The dedication ceremony will take place on Monday, July 23, 2007, at 4:00 pm on the sidewalk in front of the building.

"Baker Place represents the best of what can result from the arts and business communities working together," said Ed Vande Sande, Interim Director of the Bloomington Area Arts Council. "A beautiful, old downtown landmark building has been restored to a mix of retail and residential use, and local artists have a new and exciting venue in which to exhibit and sell their works," he added.

Baker Place is named in honor of legendary jazz musician and 2001 Indiana Living Legend award winner, David Baker, who makes Bloomington his home. The upstairs has been renovated into a three-bedroom rental condo. All artworks displayed in Baker Place are produced by regional artists and are for sale. The building is located in the heart of the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD).

The dedication ceremony will feature remarks from the City, the developer, David Baker and the BAAC. This project is another tangible example of the positive connections that can be made between business and art. It also serves as an archetypical project for BEAD.
