Community Health Screenings Added To Soul Food Festival

Community Health Screenings Added To Soul Food Festival

 

Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and Community and Family Resources Department announced today they have organized free health screenings to take place at Bloomington’s Annual Soul Food Festival. The festival takes place Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at Karst Farm Park from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., and health screenings will be available from noon – 3 p.m. 

 

The entire community is invited to attend the Soul Food Festival where they will be able to receive information and/or screenings related to vision, lead, blood pressure, stroke, blood sugar, HIV, cancer, tobacco, dental health and car seat safety. Organizations scheduled to provide information and/or screenings include Bloomington Hospital’s Community Health Services, Olcott Center and Positive Link, Monroe Hospital, Indiana University Optometry School, Volunteers in Medicine and the American Cancer Society.

 

The Soul Food Festival, which features food, music and entertainment, is hosted by the Bloomington Black Business and Professional Association. The festival celebrates African-American culture and traditions in Bloomington and Monroe County.
