City Grants BAAC Funds To Enhance bloomingtonArts.info

Bloomington, IN -- Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today the City of Bloomington is granting $6,500 to the Bloomington Area Arts Council (BAAC) for enhancements and promotion of bloomingtonArts.info, the community arts and entertainment calendar it launched in fall 2005.

“The mission of the site is to assist local arts providers in making Bloomington a major arts destination," Kruzan said. “As the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) continues to make strong strides, this web site will be all the more integral in providing information to the community and visitors about everything arts and entertainment related."

BloomingtonArts.info serves as a web-based master calendar and information resource of area arts, cultural and entertainment offerings. Visitors to the site can find out about upcoming performances, events, attractions and local arts and cultural organizations; sign up for the bloomingtonArts event e-mail; and purchase tickets for arts events. The site averages more than 3,000 unique hits per month and in 2006 generated $62,000 in ticket revenues for local arts, cultural and entertainment organizations and producers.

Funding from the City of Bloomington will provide for web site modifications and upgrades including the ability for users to post audio and video clips to the site to promote their performances and venues; enhanced linkage between images and event details; and higher visibility for the site’s weekly automated email calendar promotion tool. Funding also will support the BAAC’s marketing efforts for bloomingtonArts.info, which includes sponsorship of WGCL's "Where Your Art Is" radio program.
