Fair To Provide Community Volunteer Opportunities

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network will host a volunteer fair on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, during the weekly Farmers' Market. About 20 local nonprofit organizations will exhibit at Showers Plaza, 401 N Morton Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Fair's theme is "Go Local. Volunteer in Your Community." and the event gives prospective volunteers the opportunity to learn more about volunteer opportunities at local organizations.

"Volunteer Fairs provide the opportunity to explore the incredible variety of volunteer offerings that address community needs or build on community assets," said Bet Savich, Director of the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network. "Volunteering can be a wonderful vehicle for exploring your interests and passions, and it's a great way to find like-minded people."

Participating organizations include: American Red Cross, Bloomington Restorations, Inc., CAPE Family Resource Centers of Monroe County, Citizen Advocacy of South-Central Indiana, Inc., City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, Community Kitchen of Monroe County, El Centro Comunal Latino, Family Access Program, Middle Way House, Monroe County CASA, Monroe County History Center, Monroe County YMCA, People and Animal Learning Services, Inc. (PALS), Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), South Central Community Action Program, Sycamore Land Trust, and Volunteers in Medicine of Monroe County.

Nonprofit or governmental organizations that wish to participate should contact Savich at 349-3472 or savichb@bloomington.in.gov. There is no charge for participation. In the event of inclement weather, the fair will be moved to the Atrium of City Hall.

Prospective volunteers also are encouraged to view the community's volunteer opportunities on the City's web site, www.bloomington.in.gov/volunteer.
