Bloomington, IN - Six members of the Bloomington City Council have teamed up to Bowl for Kids' Sake! -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana's largest, annual fundraising campaign.

In the spirit of this year's theme, Teaming Up, Councilmembers Isabel Piedmont, Andy Ruff (and his son Hank), Susan Sandberg, Chris Sturbaum, Steve Volan and Brad Wisler have named their bi-partisan team SUPER COUNCIL. Each member of the Council team will assume a Super City persona: Councilmember Piedmont will be "Jade, the Green Lantern" - a defender of greenspace; Councilmember Volan will be "The Recycler" - encouraging everyone to reduce, reuse & recycle; Councilmember Wisler will be "The Crusher" - a tireless advocate for a local glass crushing/recycling facility; Councilmember Sturbaum will be "Superman" - a community guardian able to protect historic buildings in a single bound; Councilmember Ruff will be "Zorro" - a bike-riding defender against highway tyranny and economic injustice; Hank Ruff will be "Spiderman" - an affable fellow with supreme skill and agility, easily out-bowling his teammates; and Council President Sandberg will be leading the team's fund-raising efforts as "Super Fund Woman."

Proceeds from the event will help Big Brothers Big Sisters match children ages 6 through 17 with mentors in professionally supported, one-to-one relationships. Such mentoring is proven to improve family relationships, school performance, educational goals and self-esteem.

The Council team will bowl on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. and reminds community that they can still register for Edward Jones Bowl For Kids Sake!, which takes place February 23, 24 and March 1, 2008, at Suburban Lanes. Interested residents can register at www.communitybowl.kintera.org and get more information at 334.2828.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation on behalf of the Council team may do so by visiting the team's donation page or by dropping off a donation in the Council Office in City Hall, 401 N. Morton, Suite 110.
