Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington is seeking public input in development of a public art mural to be installed along the downtown B-Line Trail in the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD). The public is invited to provide input on the mural's thematic elements at a brainstorming session, Monday, Feb. 25 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers.

The Community Canvas Mural Project is a partnership between the City of Bloomington and Stone Belt, a local nonprofit that provides education and support to persons with disabilities. The project will provide Stone Belt clients and the community an opportunity to collaborate on the creation of public art. Community Canvas will join the B-Line Signature Artwork project as the second significant public art project announced for BEAD.

Community Canvas is part of Stone Belt's new Art & Craft initiative. Stone Belt Art & Craft focuses on the sales and commission of a variety of artistic products, which are designed and produced by Stone Belt client artisans. The products include mixed-media mosaics, outdoor furniture, greeting cards, jewelry, public art and more.

After public input on the murals' thematic and design elements, Stone Belt client artisans will create the artwork and other design features. During mural fabrication and installation, the community will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Stone Belt client artisans. The mural is projected to be installed in late 2008.

The project co-creator and facilitator is Joe LaMantia, Stone Belt's Artist in Residence who has led numerous successful public art initiatives throughout Bloomington, the region and state.

Information on the project is also available on the City's web site at www.bloomington.in.gov/BEAD. Members of the public unable to attend the brainstorm session are encouraged to submit ideas for the project by February 29 to michaelm@bloomington.in.gov.
