City Co-Sponsors Celebration of Families Annual Event
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 9, 2008
Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department is co-sponsoring the seventh annual Celebration of Families event, which helps celebrate Be Downtown Bloomington, the Be Bloomington theme for April, May and June.
The event is a community partnership initiated by Monroe County Step Ahead to celebrate the importance and value of families. It takes place Saturday, April 12 from noon to 4 p.m. in Third Street Park between Lincoln and Grant Streets in downtown Bloomington.
"I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy another year of this fun event," Kruzan said. "This event is important because it provides a great opportunity for family time, and I believe it helps strengthen the community as a whole."
The Festival will feature live stage entertainment including local music groups, dance groups and a martial arts demonstration. Families also can enjoy free hot dogs, popcorn and soda. Other free, interactive activities include a children's parade around the park, summer youth program registration, and community agency information about family and child services in Bloomington.
Additional co-sponsoring organizations include Middle Way House, SCCAP Head Start, Bloomington Hospital, Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington, Fairview Methodist Church, Family Resource Centers of Monroe County, Family Solutions, Girl Scouts of Tulip Trace Council, Light House Community Church, Monroe County Department of Child Services, Monroe County Step Ahead and United Way of Monroe County.
