Bloomington, IN - Plans for the City of Bloomington's B-Line Trail continue to move forward and Mayor Mark Kruzan is inviting the entire community out to celebrate.

A groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, will commence work on the project, and Kruzan is encouraging the public to join in the fun.

"This groundbreaking marks the beginning of something very special, so this is a very exciting event for our community," Kruzan said. "The people of Bloomington are ready to celebrate the start of what is going to be another wonderful facet to this city as well as the most significant economic development initiative on our agenda."

A walking parade - complete with music, flags and students from Fairview Elementary - will start from the Trail overpass at Third Street just behind the Convention Center at 11 a.m. The parade will end just outside City Hall in the Farmers' Market Plaza.

"We invite the interested, the curious and anyone who is looking forward to the new B-Line Trail to join in anywhere along the route," Kruzan said.

The ceremony will continue at the Plaza at about 11:15 a.m. Special guests scheduled to speak include Kruzan; Mick Renneisen, Director, City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department; Jim Murphy, CFC President; and a representative from the state.

"We're very excited to initiate and celebrate the construction phase of this long anticipated project," Renneisen said. "We're looking forward to the date when thousands of Bloomington residents, and visitors to our community, are using the B-Line Trail."
