Bloomington, IN -A longtime favorite among the Hoosier listening audiences, The Swinging Steaks will host a free concert at the City of Bloomington City Hall this Friday, May 16, at noon. This Taste of Bloomington veteran, who over the years has performed with such legends as John Fogerty and The Black Crowes, also will be appearing on WTIU's Weekly Special.
The visit comes in conjunction with the City's Be Bloomington initiative, a series of collaborative programs aimed at highlighting the community's very distinct local flavor. The initiative's quarterly themes hit on specific happenings around the City and offer opportunities for greater community involvement. This quarter's theme, Be Downtown Bloomington, is focused on building awareness for the City's downtown area and generating collaboration through community involvement projects with the public.
"We hope the community will join us in welcoming the Steaks here at City Hall," said Mayor Mark Kruzan. "We are very proud that this very talented, energetic band is coming back to our community to help us encourage visitors and residents to Be Downtown, grab a lunch and come enjoy this free concert."
The band will stop in Bloomington en route to Madison, IN, where it will perform at the Madison Music Festival this weekend and appear live on Southern Indiana radio airwaves.
Creem Magazine recently referred to The Swinging Steaks as the "Best country-rock to come out of Boston since Harvard student Gram Parson invented his international submarine band."
