Bloomington, IN - Rogers Road Bridge is reopened to bus and large vehicle traffic in time for the start of the school year due to a collaborative effort between city and county government.

The bridge's closure last August due to structural issues closed the road to school bus traffic and other heavy-load vehicles, causing them to divert to longer routes.

Mayor Mark Kruzan said the bridge repair was a testament to community collaboration. "We made opening the bridge by the start of the school year a priority," Kruzan said. "I want to personally thank the County and City staff who expedited this project and made it happen."

"Not only did we fix the bridge, but the extended sidepath, improved pedestrian access and enhanced pedestrian safety measures will ensure that the surrounding neighborhoods will be able to enjoy and utilize this multi-use road," he said.

Funding for the repaired bridge, which includes a new sidepath for bikes and pedestrians as well as improved guardrails to protect against traffic, was split between the County and the City's Public Works and Utilities Departments.
