Bloomington, IN - The 10th Annual City of Bloomington Citizens' Academy kicked off on Thursday, August 14th, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, and alumni of the program came together with the Class of 2008 for a special celebration and ceremony.
Over 70 attendees enjoyed food and drinks and reminisced about past Academies, said Vickie Provine, director of the Academy and program director for the City's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department.
"We really wanted to do something special this year, since it marks the 10th anniversary of this special program," said Provine. "Our past graduates were thrilled to be able to welcome this year's class, share stories and see some of the folks with whom they graduated."
Doris Sims, who created the Citizens' Academy in 1998, welcomed the crowd. Other speakers included Provine, City Council President Susan Sandberg and Sim's husband Jim. Sandberg and Jim Sims are both graduates of the program.
This year's Citizens' Academy will meet every Thursday evening through October 9th.
For more information, please contact Provine at 349-3505.
