Bloomington, IN - City of Bloomington Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department Director Lisa Abbott has announced that applications for the 2008 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) are now available.
CDBG is financial assistance from the Federal government provided annually to Bloomington through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding is aimed at helping local community organizations make improvements and address challenges to their neighborhoods.
Applications can be picked up in HAND, located in City Hall, 401 N. Morton, Suite 130, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or downloaded online at https://bloomington.in.gov/documents/viewDocument.php?document_id=885. Registrants must submit letters of intent by 4 p.m. on October 3, 2008, and final applications are due by December 5, 2008. Organizations applying for a CDBG must serve city residents whose household income is less than 80% of the area median income. Agencies that serve minority populations are encouraged to apply.
In 2008, HAND allocated $827,024 to local organizations to be used for programmatic and administrative assistance. Of that funding, more than $537,000 was used to make physical improvements in neighborhoods and $124,000 was used to provide social services.
Individuals interested in learning more about these grants are invited to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 a.m. in the McCloskey Conference Room in City Hall. Agencies new to the CDBG process are encouraged to attend.
