Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington kicks off National Hispanic Heritage Month with a reception for a special photography exhibit that highlights the lives of local Hispanics. The event will be held in the Atrium of City Hall, 401 N. Morton St., on Monday, Sept. 15, from noon-1:30 p.m, and photos will be on display through October 15. The exhibit is free and open to the public, and a light lunch and refreshments will be available for attendees.

"This is a great chance for the public to come down to City Hall, enjoy a free lunch and learn a bit more about the experiences of one of the growing segments of our community," said Pete Giordano, the City's Community and Family Resources Department Director.

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15 and seeks to celebrate the traditions, ancestry and unique experiences of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, the countries of Central and South America and the Caribbean. It also showcases the many achievements of Hispanic Americans and recognizes their contributions to our community and our country.

Events will take place throughout the month. For more information, please call 349.3860.

Sponsors include the City of Bloomington Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs, Monroe Bank, "Dividedwefail.org," Bloomington Hospital Positive Link and the Monroe County Public Library.
