Be Bloomington Events A Chance For Residents To Be Involved

Bloomington, IN - The Be Bloomington campaign continues with Be Involved Bloomington, which runs from October through the end of the year. Events scheduled throughout the quarter will highlight the dozens of opportunities city residents have to get involved in their community. Some Be Involved Bloomington events include:
- Volunteer Matching & Management System - The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network will host workshops for non-profit organizations, training them to use state-of-the-art software to create a virtual volunteer center linking these organizations with individuals and groups looking to serve. - Communication Tools for Neighborhoods Workshop (co-sponsored by the City's Housing and Neighborhood Development and Information Technology Services departments): This workshop is specially designed to help neighborhoods use tools to communicate with residents. The workshop will be conducted on Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street.
- The Great Bloomington Pumpkin Launch: A City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department favorite, this event is a fun way to recycle Halloween pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by October 29. Visit www.bloomington.in.gov to register. The contest will take place on Saturday, November 1 at Thomson Park beginning at noon.
- October is Adopt is Shelter Dog Month at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter. Help us celebrate the month by Adopting Today! Adoption fees are half price throughout the month. Visit the Shelter, 3410 S. Walnut, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 7 p.m. www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter.
- Soup Tasting at the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market: Chefs representing some of Bloomington's favorite restaurants and eateries will offer samples of soup made from late fall products available at the Market. The tasting will be held on Saturday, November 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Farmers' Market, located at 401 N. Morton Street in Showers Common.
- Meet the Instruments Weekend: All ages can experience the joy and science of music with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, world music groups and WonderLab. The event will occur November 8 and 9 at WonderLab, 308 W. Fourth Street.
- 10th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Conference (sponsored by the Monroe County Domestic Violence Task Force): Attendees can learn ways to help end intimate partner violence. The conference will be held on Friday, November 21 at St. Paul's Catholic Center, 1413 E. 17th Street. To register, contact Beverly Calender-Anderson at 349-3560.
