Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington will host the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) annual conference at the Bloomington/Monroe County Convention Center on Feb. 17 and 18.

The conference is expected to bring to Bloomington more than 250 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professionals from around the state, which could represent a significant economic impact to the community. It will primarily consist of informational workshops and exhibitions by GIS providers showcasing their products and services. Craig Stewart, Associate Dean of Research Technologies for Indiana University, will deliver the keynote address.

"We are excited about the opportunity to welcome so many GIS professionals to Bloomington," said Laura Haley, City of Bloomington GIS Manager. "This is a terrific opportunity to partner with Indiana University, Monroe County Technical Services and the Indiana Geological Survey to generate hands-on workshops and other special opportunities for our attendees."

Haley will lead a presentation about the City's online GIS and mapping resources, demonstrating how these tools can be used to maximize communication with the community. These resources include the Interactive Map and the City's Map Gallery as well as myBloomington, an address and profile application. The City's mapping web site can be accessed at http://bloomington.in.gov/maps.
