Centerstone Therapeutic Art Exhibit, America, in City Hall Atrium

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington and BEAD will showcase work from the Centerstone Therapeutic Art Program (Horizons) this month in the City Hall Atrium. The exhibit, America, will be on display from Friday, July 3 to Friday, July 31, 2009. A reception free and open to the public will take place on Wednesday, July 22 from 4 - 6 p.m.

Centerstone is a not-for-profit organization, with a mission to prevent and cure mental illness and addiction. The organization provides a full range of mental health and addiction services to over 19,000 Indiana residents each year. Children, adolescents, adults and families all receive help from a variety of programs in more than 17 facilities across south central Indiana.

The artwork in this exhibit is a product of Centerstone's many art therapy sessions. Centerstone continues to emphasize the importance of creating art to work toward improving mental health. Artwork in the exhibit focuses on the theme of "America" and what it means to be a citizen of the United States. Centerstone consumers participating in regular exhibits declare that it's "better than 15 therapy sessions!" The public is invited to attend a reception on Wednesday, July 22 from 4 - 6 p.m. for refreshments, crafts by Centerstone consumers and viewing the art.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for Bloomington and area artists to exhibit artwork in City Hall Atrium.
