Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington will commemorate the tragic events of 9/11, with a ceremony held on Friday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m. at Showers Plaza outside City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street.

The event, a solemn recognition of the commitment and sacrifices made by public safety officers in Bloomington and around the nation, will include speeches from Mayor Mark Kruzan, Bloomington Police Chief Michael Diekhoff, Bloomington Fire Chief Roger Kerr and Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana President Tom Hanify. The ceremony also will include the presentation of the colors, the playing of Taps and Amazing Grace by the Bloomington Fire Pipe and Drum Band and a bell ringing ceremony.

"This ceremony is both a reminder of those who lost their lives in the attacks of 9/11 and an opportunity to thank the many emergency service personnel who sacrifice daily to keep us safe, here in Bloomington and across the nation," said Kruzan. "I hope the community will come share this very special commemoration with us."

The ceremony is open to the public, and seating will begin by 8:30 a.m.
