Formations on exhibit at City Hall in December

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington and BEAD will showcase Formations, an arashi shibori textile installation by Daren Pitts Redman in the City Hall Atrium, 401 N. Morton St., from December 1 - December 30, 2009.

Arashi shibori is the process of rolling fabric on a pole, binding with string, twisting, scrunching and dyeing to produce patterns which are reminiscent of rain.

Pitts-Redman created the floating textile forms in response to the exhibit space and to reflect the colors in the natural wooded area surrounding her home and studio in Brown County.

Pitts- Redman been a recipient of the Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artists Grant Program in 2008 and has created award art commissions for the Bloomington Area Arts Council and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. She is the Indiana representative for Studio Art Quilters Associates and has studied with Nancy Crow, Josef Bajus and Jan Myers-Newbury.

The opening reception for Formations is Thursday, December 3rd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibition will be open for viewing from December 4th to December 30th, 2009, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. City Hall will be closed on December 25.
