Headstone Restoration Workshop October 10 at White Oak Cemetery

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department, Bloomington Monroe County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Monroe County History Center present a hands-on cemetery restoration workshop Oct. 9 and 10 in Bloomington.

Friday, Oct. 9 Jeannie Regan-Dinius from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will present a program from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Monroe County History Center, 202 E. 6th St. Regan-Dinius's talk will focus on cemetery law and restoration techniques, and she will discuss best practices for data collection including use of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices. The program is free and open to the public.

Saturday, Oct. 10 restoration specialist John Walters will lead workshop participants in hands-on cleaning, repairing, and resetting of damaged tombstones in Bloomington's White Oak Cemetery, 1200 W. 7th St. from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Registration fee to participate in Saturday's workshop is $30, which includes lunch and restoration supplies.
