City's Human Rights Commission Announces 19th Annual Essay and Art Contest Winners

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has announced the winners of its 19th Annual Essay and Art competition. With a theme of "Civil Conversations: Getting Along in Our Diverse Community," this year's contest was an overwhelming success.

Mayor Mark Kruzan will present the awards at a ceremony on Thursday, March 25, 2010, in City Hall's Council Chambers, 401 North Morton St. The public is invited to attend the celebration, which begins at 4:00 p.m.

The commission thanks prize sponsors Robinson Construction Management, Inc., Andrews, Harrell, Mann, Carmin & Parker, PC, Cassady Electrical Contractors, William C. Lloyd, Attorney at Law, and Pizza X. BHRC members Byron Bangert, Valeri Haughton, Carolyn Calloway-Thomas and Emily Bowman served as the judges of the contest.

First Place: Nina Castro-Sauer, Fourth Grade from University Elementary
Second Place: Matthew Landgraf, Third Grade from Childs Elementary
Third Place: Ingle Makemson, Second Grade from Childs Elementary

Older Student Level:
First Place: Ciabhan Connelly, Sixth Grade from Harmony School
Second Place: Kwadwo Assensoh, Eighth Grade from Tri-North Middle School
Third Place: Katherine Tilghman, Fifth Grade from Childs Elementary
