Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control Division will celebrate June as Adopt A Shelter [image:7103,right]Cat Month with two-for-one cat adoptions. The Shelter has been transformed into a fun and festive Polynesian luau complete with a master of ceremonies, shelter cat Samoa.

In addition to the fee discount, adopters will receive a lei and be entered in a drawing to win a gift basket full of tropical items for both the adopter and their new feline friend. The public is encouraged to join staff in the spirit of aloha by wearing a hawaiin shirt to the shelter to receive an additional $5 off the adoption fee.

"The goal of this promotion is to raise awareness about the number of cats and kittens available for adoption but in a way that gets people excited about coming to the Shelter," said Laurie Ringquist, Director of Animal Care and Control. "Pet overpopulation is a serious matter but adopting your next best friend should be fun, and we want people to look forward to visiting with our great cats and playful kittens."

Regular adoption fees are $75 for a cat under age five and $55 for a cat five years and older. Included in the fee are spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and testing for feline leukemia and FIV.

The public can visit adoptable animals at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter located at 3410 South Walnut. The Shelter is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.

Adoptable animals also can be seen on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon at the Farmers' Market and on the shelter web site at [www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter|www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter]. For more information about adoptable animals call 812-349-3492.
