"Fall" In Love During Barktoberfest!
Bloomington, IN -- In recognition of national Adopt-A-Dog Month, Mayor Mark Kruzan has proclaimed October as "Barktoberfest" at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter.

"Come to the Animal Shelter and celebrate all things 'dog' - the wagging tails, the floppy ears, the games of fetch, and even a little dog drool! These can all be yours if you adopt today," said Kruzan, who is the proud caregiver of two shelter dogs.
The City is promoting the month with half-price adoptions throughout October. Fees, which cover a first round of vaccinations, a free visit to a local veterinary office, heartworm testing, microchip identification and spay/neuter surgery, will be $37.50 (regularly $75) for dogs younger than 5 years old and $27.50 (regularly $55) for those 5 years and up.
Other promotions during Barktoberfest include "Yappy Hour" from 5 to 7 p.m. every Friday in October. Everyone who adopts a canine friend during these hours will win a prize ranging from further discounted adoption fees to gift cards for great Bloomington restaurants.

The public can visit adoptable animals at the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter located at 3410 South Walnut. The shelter is open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from noon until 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.

Adoptable animals also can be seen on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon at the Farmers' Market, and they can be viewed on the shelter web site at www.bloomington.in.gov/animalshelter. For more information about adoptable animals call 349-3492.
