Bloomington, IN -- As part of its commitment to fostering growth of arts and entertainment in the community, the City of Bloomington, in partnership with the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC), will host Regional Initiative Grants (RIG) application workshops this January for cultural organizations in Region 8, which includes Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan and Owen counties.

The Regional Initiative Grant program focuses on two key areas:

  • Arts Operating Support (AOS), which is geared toward Indiana arts and cultural organizations; and
  • Arts Project Support (APS) and Mini Grants, which are designed to support new and existing arts projects and activities produced or presented by an Indiana nonprofit organization. The objective of APS is to provide general public access to quality arts and cultural activities with special attention to underserved communities, and to provide general public access to educational opportunities where Indiana citizens of all ages can learn about and experience different art forms and participate in arts activities.

Both workshops are free and will focus on the IAC's online grant application process for arts organizations in Region 8. Workshop attendance is not required for grant application; however, changes to grant guidelines and application processes will be reviewed at each meeting, so attendance by potential applicants is encouraged.

The first workshop will be Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library, 125 South Franklin Street, Bloomfield. The second workshop will be Friday, Jan. 28 in the ITS Training room on the second floor of City Hall, 401 North Morton Street; two identical sessions will be held, from 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m.

Advance registration is requested for these workshops as space is limited. Please RSVP to Miah Michaelsen, Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts, at [mailto:michaelm@bloomington.in.gov] or call 812-349-3534. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop computers. Guidelines for the Regional Initiative Grant program are available on the IAC website [http://www.in.gov/arts/|http://www.in.gov/arts/].
