Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington's Community and Family Resources Department will host the ninth annual Homeward Bound 5K Walk on April 10 from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Third Street Park, 331 S. Washington Street.
This year's theme, "Fighting Homelessness One Step at a Time," emphasizes that participating in the Homeward Bound Walk for one afternoon will impact the lives of those in our community all year.
One hundred percent of funds raised from the event support eleven local agencies that provide housing, food and assistance in Monroe County. Homeward Bound also features free activities for children at Kid's Island, refreshments and live music from Bated Breath, with more entertainment along the walk route. It is an amazing opportunity for community members to unite against homelessness.
Last year's event was host to more than 800 walkers and 150 volunteers and raised more than $55,000, with all proceeds benefiting 11 local agencies assisting people in need. Since its inception in 2003, approximately $455,000 has been raised to help fund programs for Amethyst House, Centerstone, Community Kitchen, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Martha's House, Middle Way House, Monroe County United Ministries, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Shalom Community Center, Stepping Stones and Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County.
There are many ways to participate in the Homeward Bound Walk, including fundraising, volunteering, donating goods or services and individual or business partnering sponsorships.
For more information, contact Kathy Mayer, Homeward Bound Chair, at 349-3430 or mayerk@bloomington.in.gov. Informational brochures and team packets are available at the Community and Family Resources Department in City Hall, 401 N. Morton Street, Suite 260.
