Bloomington, IN -- The City of Bloomington Sanitation Department will be picking up large items free of charge from May 2 to May 12. Large items include grills, mattresses, furniture and other household items.

This "spring cleanup" promotion is meant to encourage proper disposal of items as the spring school semester ends and residents begin moving out of apartments and housing.

"This service helps our core neighborhoods deal with a lot of the large items associated with the end of the school year exodus," said Mayor Mark Kruzan.

Large items will be picked up at the curb on your regularly scheduled trash pick-up day. Other helpful tips include:

  • Please have all items at the curb by 5 a.m.
  • Regular household trash and yard waste still require the appropriate sticker.
  • Please call 349-3443 to schedule an appliance pick-up.
  • Please remove propane tanks from grills and gasoline from power tools.

Also, please remember that yard waste collection has begun. Yard waste will be collected every other week on the same day as recycling. Please have the recycles and yard waste at the curb by 5 a.m.
