FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information, please contact: Miah Michaelsen, Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts, City of Bloomington, 349.3534

BLOOMINGTON, IN - The City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase the abstract paintings of Nashville, Ind., artist Anabel Hopkins in the Atrium of City Hall during the month of July.

Hopkins embraces the freedom found in the abstract style, utilizing molding paste with broad strokes of a large palette knife, the swipe of a large brush on an oversized canvas, and glues on sand, pumice and other elements, creating a built-up structure in her work. She often begins with a general idea and lets the painting determine its own design, commonly altering colors and form as she progresses.

Hopkins is currently represented by the Hoosier Salon in Indianapolis, Hoosier Artist Gallery in Nashville, and The Venue Gallery and Gifts in Bloomington. She has been juried into the National Abstract Show in Indianapolis and has recently had a painting accepted for installation in the new Eugene and Marilyn Glick-Indiana University Eye Center in Indianapolis. She has additional abstract shows scheduled for Healing Arts-Indy gallery in Indianapolis in August and Phi Gallery at Hotel Indigo in Columbus in October and November. More examples of Hopkins's work can be seen on her website, www.anabelhopkins.com

The exhibit will be in the Atrium of City Hall July 1-31. Exhibition hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings. An opening reception will be held Friday, July 8 from 5-8 pm. The public is invited to attend and meet the artist.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for area artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium. For more information on the exhibition program, contact Miah Michaelsen, Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts, at [mailto:michaelm@bloomington.in.gov] or (812) 349-3534.
