Bloomington, IN -- The American Heart Association (AHA) has recognized the City of Bloomington as a Platinum level Fit Friendly Company for the second year in a row.

The AHA recognized 230 companies in the Midwest for their efforts to champion a culture of physical health and activity in the workplace. The City launched an employee wellness campaign last year called "Be Active Bloomington" to provide employees with information and tips on how to incorporate healthy choices into their workday and home lives. The value of a workforce that embraces wellness is understood and appreciated by Mayor Mark Kruzan.

"Employees who engage in physical activity and make positive, healthy behavior choices are happier, more energetic, creative and productive," Kruzan said. "The City is proud of this designation, and we hope this will further encourage our employees to attain their fitness goals."

The AHA offers free marketing materials, online activity tracking tools and more to its Fit Friendly companies. The City hopes this news will prompt other companies in the community to encourage health and activity in their workforce.
