BLOOMINGTON, IN - The City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase paintings by local watercolor artists in the Atrium of City Hall in November.

The exhibit is part of a community project, "We Paint…Parks!," which includes the Bloomington Watercolor Society (BWS), BEAD and the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. For the past year participating members of the Bloomington Watercolor Society have been working on paintings of each of 45 different city parks and facilities, which members were assigned via a lottery-style drawing. Selected work from the exhibit will be for sale with a percentage of the proceeds going to the Bloomington Parks Foundation. Three paintings will be chosen to appear in a 2012 Parks and Recreation Program Guide.

The mission of the BWS is to provide opportunities for the promotion and exhibition of watercolor media in the community. BWS currently has 82 members from throughout the region. More information on BWS programs and activities can be found at [http://bloomingtonwatercolor.org/|http://bloomingtonwatercolor.org/].

The mission of the Bloomington Parks Foundation is to to assist in keeping the community beautiful, culturally satisfying and dynamic by enhancing park and green space, cultural amenities, sports and fitness opportunities, activities for senior citizens, wholesome programs for youth, public parkways, trees and flowers. More information on the Bloomington Parks Foundation can be found at bloomington.in.gov/parkfoundation.

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held November 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. Harpist Maggie Grove, a graduate of the I.U. Jacobs School of Music, will perform during the reception. The public is invited to attend and meet the artists.

The exhibit will be on display from November 4 through December 3. Exhibition hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as Saturday mornings when City Hall is open during the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market, and additional evening hours when City Hall is open for meetings.

The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for area artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium.
