Commission on the Status of Black Males Seeks Nominees for Annual Award

Bloomington, IN - Mayor Mark Kruzan and the City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Black Males invite the public to submit nominations for the Seventh Annual Outstanding Black Male Leaders of Tomorrow Award.

The award recognizes local contributions by African American youth and seeks to encourage the development of future leaders. There are two categories: high-school aged, African-American males and adult African-American males no older than 30 years of age.

"When the City of Bloomington established its Commission on the Status of Black Males, it did so in part to examine and propose solutions to some of the challenges faced by African American males," Kruzan said. "The Annual Recognition of Outstanding Black Male Leaders of Tomorrow award offers a unique opportunity for the Commission and the City to recognize young, emerging African American leaders and affirm their contributions to our community."

Nominations can be made online at http://bloomington.in.gov/csbm, and forms also are available from the Community and Family Resources Department in City Hall, 401 North Morton St., Suite 260. The deadline for nominations is February 7, 2012. Nominees must have resided in Monroe County for at least one year, and must have been involved personally or professionally in making meaningful contributions to the Bloomington community. Past recipients include Matt Herndon, Cordero L. Rhyne, Alvin Henry, Gerald L. Mitchell, Eddie R. Cole, Jr., Rashawn Ray and Adrian Land.
