City of Bloomington Arts Commission Announces April 2012 Grant Recipients

Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC) has announced its April 2012 grant recipients. Seventeen organizations in the Bloomington community submitted grant applications for specific arts programs and were evaluated in four categories: artistic quality, community impact, organizational capacity and project history.

Grants are made available to nonprofit organizations participating in arts activities that align with the current areas of focus of the Arts Commission: cultivating a community in which residents appreciate the value of personal and collective artistic activity; encouraging collaboration in and diversification of artistic activities, including participants from across the community; enhancing and supporting a high level of artistry; and supporting the economic vitality and interests of local artists and arts organizations.
The following nine organizations received the highest ranking and were granted funding for the April grant round:

WFIU Radio: $877.00 for its Artist in the Making radio series featuring emerging artists in a variety of media.
Bloomington Chamber Singers: $855.87 for its annual Messiah concert.
Bloomington Symphony Orchestra: $855.87 for its 2012 Summer Concert in the Park project.
Bloomington Open Studios Tour: $908.70 for its June Open Studios Tour project featuring the work of more than 50 artists.
WonderLab: $887.57 for its Science of Art programs that takes place on the first Friday of every month.
Carson-Palmer Productions LLC: $700.00 for its August Broadway and Opera Concert.
Lotus Education and Outreach Foundation: $815.00 for its Lotus Village Outreach Project.
Krampus Legend and Arts Workshop (KLAW): $800.00 for the Krampus Legend and Arts Workshop that will include films, puppet shows, a parade and more to promote the legend of the Krampus.
Bloomington Creative Glass Center: $800.00 for the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch, which features more than 250 hand-blown glass pumpkins.
