BEAD to Exhibit Illustrations on Canvas by Avi Katz
Bloomington, IN - During the month of June, the City of Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) will showcase artworks created by Avi Katz in the City Hall atrium, 401 N. Morton St.
Katz was born and raised in Israel and is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York. Since his graduation, he has created art for animated films and television including Nickelodeon's Blue's Clues. Katz also has worked with video games and created illustrations for advertisements in Israel, Canada and the United States.
As a newcomer to Bloomington, Katz said he was compelled to do illustrations of local scenes in a uniquely visualized documentation from a non-conventional angle. His art is greatly influenced by French graphic novels and animation and the combination of the European style and local landmarks results in fresh observations of familiar places. This is Katz's fourth exhibition. His work is also showcased online at [www.aviakatz.com].
The exhibit will be on display June 1-30. Exhibition hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as additional evening and weekend hours when City Hall is open for meetings.
Avi will host an Artist's Talk on Tuesday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. He will discuss the ideas and philosophy behind his art, his mixed media technique, and the general rules he follows to make his scenes more appealing to the viewer's eye. He will also explain some of the tricks from animation and the comic-book world that he incorporates into his art.
The City of Bloomington is committed to providing opportunities for area artists to exhibit artwork in the City Hall Atrium.
